Toy Review – The Sugarotic Clitoral Suction and G-spot Rabbit Vibrator by Rock Candy

In Review, Air Pulse, Dual-Stimulator, Vibrators

Dual-stimulators are often considered very hit or miss – weighing more heavily on the miss end of the spectrum for many. I’m just gonna come right out and say it, the Sugarotic is unfortunately not the exception for me.

I go into dual-stimulator reviews knowing there’s a high likelihood of them just not fitting my body the right way and that right off the bat they might not even be functional at all, but I keep doing them because occasionally there’s a real gem that surprises me. I also keep doing them so that my readers know that there’s nothing wrong with their bodies if a toy doesn’t fit them – the concept of a toy that does it all is a great one that lots of people really want, but the reality of a one-size-fits-all solution to this desire is not so reachable. I don’t relish in the pile of toys I have that I quite literally cannot use, or don’t want to use, or don’t feel good to use, I don’t like feeling like a constant Debbie Downer of the sex toy review world, but it’s important work. I don’t doubt that the Sugarotic works perfectly well for somebody, but it’s not me, and it might not be you – so let’s find out.

The first thing I noticed about the Sugarotic is that the insertable arm is a smidge big by my standards. I’m most comfortable in the 1″- 1.5″ range and the Sugarotic’s widest point – which is at the very end so there’s no ‘working up to it’ – is pushing that just a bit at 1.57″. Not insurmountable by any means, but it did require a generous application of lube and some warm-up I wouldn’t normally need to give to a smaller toy.

My next observation was the ripples in the shaft. I don’t usually do well with textures, but since the Sugarotic isn’t really designed for thrusting (because you’d want to maintain contact with the clitoral arm) this feature wasn’t too bad, I just had to give a little extra care to insertion and removal.

The full insertable length of the Sugarotic is 5.5″ which is great if you want to vibrate the back of your vagina…this is however being billed as a G-spot toy. The vagina can “tent” at the end or stretch a few extra inches when you’re aroused, but the G-spot doesn’t move deeper with it, it stays put. Most folks would describe their G-spot as being located closer to their vaginal opening, around 1-3 inches/second knuckles deep, and I fall into that category. If I were to place the tip of the Sugarotic’s insertable arm on my G-Spot, the clitoral arm isn’t making any contact with my body at all, there’s dead air between us. This is a very common problem I find with dual-stimulators – whoever is designing them is thinking they should be as long as any other dildo to satisfy everyone’s diverse length preferences (which usually have more to do with thrusting action feeling “full”, or hitting deeper vaginal areas than hitting the G-spot), without giving thought to the fact that the other half of the toy might become non-functional. I sometimes enjoy having the area around my cervix vibrated so I’m not entirely opposed to a toy of this length…it’s just not hitting the area it’s billed for. If I want my G-spot vibrated at the same time that my clit is stimulated, this isn’t going to work.

Finally, the angle of the clitoral arm is all wrong. If I were to lay on my back, the angle that I would want the internal arm to be at in order to stimulate my G-spot (or even a deeper vaginal spot like above my cervix) is pretty close to the picture below.

You’ll notice that the nozzle for the clitoral air-pulse feature is aimed at a very downward angle. When I insert the Sugarotic far enough that the clitoral arm is actually making contact with my vulva (which means it’s almost as deep as it can possibly go as my vagina is not very long or stretchy) it’s the upper curve of the arm, not the mouth of the nozzle that is touching me. If I really try I can get the outer lip of the nozzle to touch, but it is pulsing the air down and past my clit, not onto it, and these toys aren’t just supposed to pulse air at your clitoral tissue, you’re supposed to press the nozzle into your body so that it can envelop that tissue and make a seal. In order to get the nozzle situated in the right place, the whole toy would need to be angled more like this (again, imagining that I’m lying flat and my vaginal canal is roughly parallel with the bottom of the photo)

Quite frankly, my vagina doesn’t do that. That hurts! The vaginal canal actually slants down/back towards the buttocks before making an upward turn at the end…but none of it makes this drastic of a curve. The internal arm of the Sugarotic is flexible but it’s pretty extreme pressure I have to put on it in order to bend it to an acceptable shape. That’s pressure the toy is putting back on my whole pelvis because it doesn’t want to be in that bent shape, it wants to return to its natural state and my vagina is being used as leverage. I just had to have my first intravaginal ultrasounds done – if you’ve ever had to have one of those you probably know the discomfort I’m relating this toy to. The flexibility doesn’t fix the fit problem either, because widening the V shaped hinge where the two arms meet and getting the angle of the internal and clitoral arm to be more 90 degrees to each other, means the internal arm has lengthened/the clitoral nozzle has pulled back, so the two stimulation points on the toy are even further apart than before. My G-spot does require an angle close to this to get the right amount of pressure on, but again if the clitoral arm is placed properly against my vulva then my G-spot is closer to where the ripples are on the shaft, not all the way at the end. The end of the insertable arm is trying to puncture the front of my abdomen at this angle.

(If you’re still not clear on how bad this angle is, I found an anatomy cross-section that included the clitoral glans and tried holding the toy up to it how it would need to be placed to get a good seal on the nozzle. I posted that photo to Twitter)

If the Sugarotic just fit better, it might not be half bad. While I’d prefer more than just three steady vibration options (and as always, separate increase and decrease buttons) the vibrations the internal arm have are quite strong and rumbly. I’d use this toy as just an internal vibrator if the other half of it didn’t get in the way of my clit. Sadly, testing the clitoral portion just wasn’t physically possible, there was no way I could make the needed contact with my body in order to try it. It also only has three steady speeds though, which again I would prefer to see expanded instead of a bunch of patterns. On a final function note – the packaging all says that the Sugarotic is to be considered “splash proof” but then also says it’s suitable for “water and shower play.” Normally I’d consider splash proof to mean you can rinse it in the sink and maybe use it in the shower, but that you shouldn’t fully submerge it in the bath or hot tub or soak it to clean it. I don’t see toys labeled as only splash proof a whole lot these days, but to be on the safe side I’d say Rock Candy’s idea of “water play” doesn’t involve full submersion.

I think some serious consideration for anatomy needs to be given before purchasing the Sugarotic. Really look closely at the angles and lengths of all the parts and think hard about how your own body is built in order to determine if this toy might even fit, and if it’s going to stimulate the areas you actually want stimulated. I’d recommend a toy of this length to someone who knew they enjoyed deeper vibrations on or around their cervix, but it’s definitely not what I’d pick first for a G-spot toy. Lining up the clitoral half is always the trickiest part with dual-stimulators, and I think the window for the anatomy this toy most satisfies is much narrower than some other options.
